Privacy & cookies
This covers the Ration website. The macOS app itself is separate: it reads your Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor usage locally on your Mac and does not send it to us.
What this site collects
Nothing by default. The site is static and has no accounts, forms, or server logic. If you accept analytics (below), we load Google Tag Manager, which may load Google Analytics to measure aggregate, anonymized usage — such as pages viewed and rough location. We never sell data.
Sub-processors
Two sub-processors handle traffic to this website. Cloudflareserves and caches the pages from its edge network (hosting, TLS, DNS), and sees request metadata such as IP addresses in the course of doing so.Google (Tag Manager and, through it, Google Analytics) receives data only if you accept analytics below. The app itself has no processors: it talks only to the providers you sign in to.
Cookies
No tracking cookies load until you press Accept on the banner. Your choice is stored in your browser's local storage (ration-consent) — not a cookie, and not sent anywhere.
- Accept — Google Tag Manager loads and may set Google Analytics (
_ga*) cookies. - Decline — nothing analytics-related loads; any existing
_ga*cookies are cleared. - Change your mind anytime via Cookie preferences in the footer.
The app's data
Ration is local-first. It sends nothing to us (the developer) or to any analytics or advertising service. It does talk to Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor directly from your Mac, using your own signed-in sessions — those requests, and the sign-in itself, go straight to Anthropic, OpenAI, Cursor, and whatever identity provider you sign in with (for example Google or Microsoft), over HTTPS, exactly as they would in a browser. Your session cookies are sent to those providers to authenticate you, and nowhere else. Everything the app keeps is stored on your Mac, inside its sandbox container:
- Your provider sign-in sessions — each account gets its own isolated browser data store (an Apple
WKWebsiteDataStore: cookies, cache, and local storage for that Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor login). This stays on your Mac and is deleted when you remove the account. - Account metadata — the label you type, which provider it is, and internal IDs — as plain-text JSON. No passwords or access tokens are ever written to these files; credentials live only in the isolated browser data store above.
- Usage snapshots and history — your current and past usage and reset times for each window the provider reports (5-hour, weekly, Fable weekly on Claude Max) plus Cursor's usage-based spend, as plain-text JSON, so the app can show live limits, chart trends, and project when you'll run out. History is kept as hourly buckets in per-month files and is not deleted on a schedule; removing an account deletes its history with it.
- Alert and cleanup state — which usage alerts have already fired (so you aren't notified twice), and a short-lived record of browser profiles queued for deletion after you remove an account.
- Your settings — sort order, alert, notification-privacy and warm-up preferences, quiet hours, and holidays.
Because these files are plain text inside your user account, anyone with access to your unlocked Mac or its backups could read them. If your account labels are sensitive (for example, a client or employer name), turn on Hide account details in notifications in the app's settings so labels and exact usage stay off your lock screen.
Verify it yourself
Ration is open source under the MIT license. Every request the app makes and everything it stores is in the code at github.com/IZZY-Agency/ration, and each release on GitHub is the exact tree the shipped build was made from.
